The weight of a squirrel on the perch closes seed ports. The weight needed to close the ports is adjustable so you can set it as at a squirrel proof weight or even at a weight that will prevent larger birds such as crows and grackles from devouring the seed. The perches have been designed to accommodate cardinals who don't like to feed from post type perches. This feeder also attracts birds who cling to the mesh sides to eat, as well as birds who prefer perches. Also feature a seed ventilation system that allows air to escape out of the top of the feeder and fresh air to enter through the bottom to keep seed dryer and healthier.
